Silver does not clear the nearby resistance on the base path, and Monday’s screens are not one price. FXEmpire’s silver page showed a last of 60.4480 at 13:03:34.933 UTC on 12 October 2026, bid 60.42550 and ask 60.47050. This note rounds that last to the cent and uses $60.45 as the spot. It does not average it with gold-api.com at 60.553 twenty-five seconds earlier, with Investing.com silver futures at 60.680, or with FXStreet’s print around $60.70. This silver price prediction, into Wednesday’s 14 October CPI, is bull $64.40, base $60.02, bear $57.26. The base carries the negative drift of the last 90 daily log-returns on the iShares Silver Trust, so it finishes under both $60.45 and the $61.72 resistance Arslan Ali marked that morning. One ordinary up day can clear $61.72. A neckline just above a $64 handle was not the tape saved here.
Key facts
- FXEmpire silver last 60.4480 at 13:03:34.933 UTC on 12 October 2026, used here as $60.45. Bid 60.42550, ask 60.47050, spread 0.045. Previous close 60.93650, change -0.80%. Session high 61.455, low 60.4055. Source: FXEmpire silver, page saved that minute.
- gold-api.com XAG 60.553 at 13:03:09 UTC the same day. Not the spot. Source: gold-api.com. Investing.com silver futures 60.680, down 0.368, or 0.60%, stamp 09:02:41, zone unlabeled, day’s range 60.680 to 61.740, previous close in the page text 61.048. Source: Investing.com.
- FXStreet at 08:36:13 GMT: XAG/USD around $60.70 during European hours, still below $61.00, after what it called gains of over 2.5% the previous session. It attributed a 19.4% chance of a 25-basis-point hike this month to the CME FedWatch tool. Source: Akhtar Faruqui, FXStreet.
- iShares Silver Trust, Friday 9 October 2026: Nasdaq close $54.78, volume 13,612,380. Thursday’s close was $53.45, so the share rose 2.49%. iShares lists the same $54.78 close, daily volume 13,612,382, NAV $54.36, up $1.22, or 2.29%, and a 0.77% premium. Source: Nasdaq SLV history and iShares.
- Trust size that Friday: net assets $29,732,025,327, ounces 493,948,790.70, tonnes 15,363.53, shares outstanding 546,950,000, sponsor fee 0.50%, YTD NAV total return -16.71%, 52-week NAV $42.13 to $107.35. Assets divided by ounces equal $60.19. That is Friday’s trust arithmetic, not Monday’s spot.
- Bull $64.40, base $60.02, bear $57.26 versus the $60.45 cent. Inputs: mean and sample standard deviation of 90 SLV daily log-returns, 3 June 2026 through 9 October 2026, over the three cash sessions of 12, 13 and 14 October.
- September CPI is due 14 October, a Wednesday, on the FXEmpire pages saved Monday. Arslan Ali’s note, updated 10:08 GMT, put October hike odds near 17% and the chance of at least one hike by December near 86%. A separate note the same morning said nearly 85% by December. Those odds are not averaged.
What just happened, and why the obvious reading is wrong
The obvious reading is that silver is “around $61” and the only question is a neckline a few cents overhead. The pages saved here do not say that. At 13:03 UTC the FXEmpire last was under $60.45, the session high on that page was $61.455, and the low was $60.4055. The high has not cleared $61.72. The low has not broken $59.96. On this one screen the day is already inside the band Arslan Ali published, and the $61 handle belongs to earlier timestamps, not to this one.
Those earlier timestamps are real, which is why averaging them into the 13:03 print would invent a price nobody posted at that minute. Muhammad Umair, updated 08:36 GMT, wrote that silver increased to $61 in early Asian trading. Zafar Rizwan posted at 03:52 UTC that it was holding gains near $61.10. By 08:36 GMT Akhtar Faruqui had it around $60.70. By 12:45 UTC The Daily Print had $60.94, up 0.4%. By 12:54 UTC MetalMetric put a one-ounce bar at about $60.54, nine minutes before gold-api.com printed 60.553. The morning is a drift down through $61, plus a spread between desks. It is not one $64 print.
A $64.24 last, and a neckline at $64.10 to $64.15, were not on the pages saved Monday and not in the X posts retrieved. Kitco showed $60.35 on a 999 line and $55.83 on sterling, in a purity table with no clock, so that is not the spot. The nearest pattern line was an 8 October post that price had already lost $62.60. Friday is separate: the NYSE is open on Columbus Day, the Nasdaq file ends on 9 October, and SLV rose 2.49%. FXStreet’s “over 2.5%” describes the ounce, not the share.
Who is exposed
The listed vehicle in the saved file is the iShares Silver Trust. Friday’s fact sheet showed $29,732,025,327 of net assets, 493,948,790.70 ounces and 15,363.53 tonnes. With 546,950,000 shares outstanding, that is 0.903 ounces per share. Divide the $54.78 close by that holding and the share implied about $60.66 an ounce. Divide the $54.36 NAV by the same holding and the metal in the trust was $60.19. The fact sheet’s 0.77% premium is that gap: (54.78 minus 54.36) divided by 54.36 is 0.77%. Monday’s $60.45 sits between those two Friday readings. A reader who treats $54.78 as the ounce is in the wrong unit. The sponsor fee is 0.50%. Nasdaq lists Friday volume at 13,612,380 and iShares at 13,612,382.
From the 31 December 2025 close of $64.42, Friday’s $54.78 is down 15.0%, against a YTD NAV total return of -16.71% on the fact sheet. The industrial book is the figure Ali’s note attributes to the Silver Institute, not a number recomputed here: a sixth successive 2026 deficit, estimated at 46.3 million ounces, and industrial demand of 639.6 million ounces, lower because of substitution in solar manufacturing. The same paragraph says bar and coin demand is expected to rise 18%. Bar holders and SLV holders are on opposite sides of that thrift. No miner close was saved, so this note does not invent one.
What the tape actually shows
Four ounce screens and one ETF close are doing different jobs. The scenario maths uses only the $60.45 cent.

The highest SLV close in the file is 28 January 2026 at $105.60. Friday is 48.1% below it. FXEmpire’s own XAG page, a different series, lists a 52-week high of $121.67175, a low of $45.5505, a one-month close of $64.50 and a year-to-date close of $71.6445. At $60.45 that ounce is 15.6% under the year-to-date cell. The $64.40 bull is the formula below, not that cell. In the 90-session window the worst day was 5 June, a close of $61.57 after $66.98, log-return -8.42%. The best was 11 June, $60.82, log-return +5.34%. One day in the sample was larger than the whole three-session bear.
What the named notes and posts actually say
“Silver price (XAG/USD) loses ground after registering over 2.5% gains in the previous trading day, remaining around $60.70 per troy ounce during European hours on Monday,” wrote Akhtar Faruqui, a forex analyst at FXStreet, at 08:36:13 GMT. The piece reports attacks on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, a further Sunday strike after one it says killed 12 and injured more than 300, and a drone hit on a tanker near Sohar. It says those attacks prompted President Trump to consider joining Saudi Arabia against Iran-backed Houthis. This note did not move $60.45 because of that account. The same piece cites CME FedWatch at 19.4% for a 25-basis-point hike this month.
“Silver faces resistance at $61.72, with a breakdown below $59.96 potentially exposing $58.74 and $57.64 as bearish momentum strengthens,” wrote Arslan Ali, technical analysis expert at FXEmpire, in a note updated at 10:08 GMT. The same update puts an October hike near 17% and at least one hike by December near 86%. His $57.64 sits 38 cents above this note’s $57.26 bear, and the session low of $60.4055 has not broken $59.96. Muhammad Umair’s note, updated 08:36 GMT, says nearly 85% for a hike by December, and that silver could move toward $72 if it clears $65. That $72 is his sketch.
“Without question, the key risk event on everyone’s radar this week is Wednesday’s September US CPI report,” wrote Aaron Hill, chief market analyst at FP Markets, in a First Light note on FXEmpire at 08:52 GMT. He expects headline CPI at 3.7% year on year, from 3.4% in August, and core at 2.5%, from 2.4%. On the month he has headline at 0.6%, from 0.4%, and core at 0.2%, from 0.3%. He also writes that recent payrolls were a miss, 29,000 against about 90,000 expected. The BLS calendar page did not open for this note, so the 14 October date is taken from the FXEmpire pages that state it, including Umair’s and the Dow Jones note. That Dow note says the 10-year Treasury yield ended Friday near 5.24%.
Ali’s gold paragraph says President Trump announced what he called a temporary energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and that details remain unclear. Zafar Rizwan’s post at 03:52 UTC is harder: “Silver price holds gains near $61.10 as US President Trump confirms Russia-Ukraine ceasefire.” The post also says investors were turning to CPI on Wednesday. This note takes the $61.10 and the Wednesday line. “Confirms” is not the verb on the FXEmpire page. Maison Quant, on 8 October, said silver had lost $62.60 and was around $60.6. That lost level is not the bear case below.
Where the tension sits
No silver-specific rule is in the documents read here. The split is a non-yielding ounce against hike odds the desks will not state the same way: 19.4% this month on FXStreet, near 17% for October and near 86% for at least one hike by December on Ali’s page, near 85% by December on Umair’s. Hill’s 3.7% headline, if Wednesday prints it, is a step up from 3.4%. Umair also writes that the dollar was already near an 18-month high.
A 10-year near 5.24% on Friday, if the Dow note has the close, is not explained by one more quarter point in the funds rate. Silver pays no coupon, and the 46.3 million ounce deficit does not settle Wednesday afternoon. Monday is Columbus Day and the NYSE is open. This note does not say the bond market is shut. The FinanceFeeds hike-odds note is an earlier gold read. Its odds are not Monday’s 17%, 19.4% or 85%.
Bull, base and bear, with the maths
The volatility is the ETF’s, because an ounce history did not download. Yahoo returned 429. Stooq returned a browser check, not rows. The Nasdaq SLV file did, through Friday. The last 90 daily log-returns run from 3 June 2026 through 9 October. The mean is -0.240% a day. The sample standard deviation is 2.716% a day, about 43.1% if scaled by the square root of 252. The horizon is the three cash sessions from Monday 12 October through Wednesday 14 October.
Three times the daily mean is a drift of -0.720%. One standard deviation over three sessions is 2.716% times the square root of 3, or 4.704%. One and a half of those is 7.055%. The bull adds the drift to that shock: -0.720 plus 7.055 is 6.335% in log terms. The exponent of that, times $60.45, is $64.40, which is +$3.95, or +6.53%. The base is the drift alone, $60.02, or -$0.43, -0.71%. The bear subtracts one three-session standard deviation from the drift and lands at $57.26, or -$3.19, -5.28%. Those cents are the unrounded products $64.4036, $60.0163 and $57.2587, rounded.
One session, one standard deviation above $60.45, is $61.97. One standard deviation below is $58.69. Ali’s $61.72 is inside the up day. It does not require the bull. The base misses it by $1.70 because the drift is negative and the base adds no upside shock. The session high of $61.455 is only $1.01 above the spot, or 1.66%, still inside that day. Clearing $61.72 is an up-vol outcome, not what the last 90 sessions did on average. The bear is smaller than the 5 June drop in the share. Three live English notes already use other pairs: the yields piece, the 2026 path, and the earlier bull-and-bear note. The levels in those headlines are not the levels here.
What happens next
On Wednesday 14 October the release Hill, Umair and the Dow note all point at is September CPI. If it lands on the 3.7% headline and 2.5% core Hill cited, and October hike odds stay near 17% or 19.4%, the path that matches the recent drift is $60.02. That price does not clear $61.72 and it does not break $59.96. The FXEmpire screen saved Monday was already in that corridor, with a high of $61.455 and a low of $60.4055.
If the print is hot enough to sell through $59.96 the same day, Ali’s map points at $58.74 and then $57.64. This note’s bear, $57.26, is the one-standard-deviation case over three sessions, not a new level pasted on top of his, and it does not require a retest of $45.55. The bull, $64.40 by Wednesday’s close, needs the 1.5-standard-deviation upside, which would clear $61.72 and the futures high of 61.740. It would not reach Umair’s $72. The formula stops at Wednesday because the question is the CPI date.
Scenario table
| Case | Level on 14 Oct 2026 | Versus the $60.45 spot | What has to be true |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bull | $64.40 | +$3.95, +6.53% | 1.5 standard deviations plus the drift, over three sessions. Clears $61.72 and 61.740. A hot CPI does not revive the October hike. |
| Base | $60.02 | -$0.43, -0.71% | Drift only, -0.240% a day for three sessions. CPI matches Hill’s 3.7% and 2.5%. October odds stay near 17% or 19.4%. |
| Bear | $57.26 | -$3.19, -5.28% | One three-session standard deviation under the drift. Breaks $59.96, with the 10-year near 5.24% and the dollar firm. |

Frequently asked questions
Can silver clear $61.72 before the 14 October CPI?
Not on the base path. The base is $60.02, $0.43 under the $60.45 spot and $1.70 under $61.72. Clearing $61.72 takes an upside shock. One daily standard deviation from this spot is about $61.97, so the level can break on an ordinary up day. The three-session bull is $64.40. The three-session bear is $57.26. Wednesday’s CPI is the dated test, not a promise of either tail.
Which print is the spot in this silver price prediction?
FXEmpire’s last was 60.4480 at 13:03:34.933 UTC on 12 October 2026. This note uses $60.45, that figure to the cent, with a bid of 60.42550 and an ask of 60.47050. gold-api.com, Investing.com futures and FXStreet printed other numbers the same morning. They are cited above and are not averaged in.
Why is the chart an ETF if the cases are in dollars per ounce?
The saved daily history is Nasdaq’s file for the iShares Silver Trust. It ends with the Friday 9 October 2026 close at $54.78. An ounce history did not download from the other feeds tried. The chart is the share, not the ounce, and the bull, base and bear are not drawn on it. Friday’s trust held 0.903 ounces per share, so a $54.78 share is not a $54.78 ounce.
How were $64.40, $60.02 and $57.26 calculated?
From 90 SLV daily log-returns, 3 June 2026 through 9 October 2026, and from three cash sessions, 12 through 14 October. The mean log-return is -0.240% a day. The standard deviation is 2.716% a day. The bull adds 1.5 standard deviations over those three sessions to the drift. The base is the drift alone. The bear subtracts one standard deviation. The spot they multiply is $60.45. They are not a bank forecast.
What is the CPI figure the desks are using?
Aaron Hill wrote that Wednesday’s September CPI is the week’s key risk. His note expects headline CPI at 3.7% year on year, from 3.4%, and core at 2.5%, from 2.4%. FXStreet put a hike this month at 19.4%. Ali’s note put October near 17% and at least one hike by December near 86%. A print that holds those October odds fits the base. A hot print that breaks $59.96 fits the bear of $57.26.
